Client Snapshot: Little Spoon
Welcome to a look behind-the-scenes of a series of product photo shoots that I’ve been doing for an incredible brand called Little Spoon. The brand is focused on food for kids of all ages, from under a year old all the way up to pre-teens (and me, who regularly eats the food they send!). I’ve been partnering with them over the last year to provide regular styled shoots to capture their new menu items and some lifestyle photography for new campaigns.
About Product Photography
The photography for Little Spoon is incredibly important. Parents who shop the site want to see exactly what the benefits of the food they’re buying for their kiddos will be, and that’s why we’re so intentional about the food styling. We use bright lighting and fun colors to communicate the values of this amazing consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand and their products.
What I Bring to a Product Shoot
For Little Spoon shoots, the clients join me on set remotely. I love having these clients on set with me—they’re fun, creative, and engaging. Using a tethering set-up, they weigh in on the photos and we work together to see what works. For these shoots, I always use my Godox strobe without any diffusers to create a fun, playful lighting to complement the food.
As always, I used my Canon 6D Mark II with my 24-105mm lens. For certain menu items, the macro capabilities of this lens is really important. We definitely want to capture detail! For the props in the shoots for Little Spoon, the client and I work together to carefully select props that feel age appropriate items.
Shoot Concept
Each shoot that I do with Little Spoon is slightly different: sometimes, they’re focused on simple photos of a deliciously-plated dish. Other times, more props and elements are pulled in to create a lifestyle photo to showcase the brand.
I absolutely love working with Little Spoon. I believe in their mission—after all, their food is so good that I eat it as a 30-year-old—and their creative visions and excitement are so fun to bring to set.
